Catlins (again)

When we arrived in Gerladine form a whirlwind trip up north we had just a day to do laundry (of course it was raining so we built a fire and dried what we could), stocked up on more of my delicious homemade jam and other necessities, and headed south for a week.  Our main objective was to spend more time in the Catlins.  How many times have we been to the Catlins?  Too many to count but we couldn't keep away.  It's not littered with people, buildings, and cars - just a pure unadulterated New Zealand experience and we loved every minute of it!

We were able to get to the true soutern most tip of NZ's south island (there is a large island way off shore but it's hard to get to).  It is the most southern we had ever been, and probably will ever be, in the world.  What an experience!

Tautuku Estuary Boardwalk

On our way back we found some wild blackberry bushes - yippee!

Walking through open fields to access Slope Point

And here we are, at last!

The fury of these "southerlies" can be brutal on the vegetation
