Jonathan is in his 2nd week of work and says it is actually going well. It is SOOOO nice having him around (since he is working less than 1/2 the hours he was in residency and is no longer an active bishop). We actually eat meals together (shocker) and even go to church together (another shocker). I knew this day would finally come...the day I would finally have my husband back. It was a very long 7 years of medical training, but now he never has to worry about having a steady job (granted he is physically/mentally able). What a way to start working as a board-certified physician - in New Zealand!
For the month of October we are here in the southern part of the south island (yes - penguins nest on the shores here). We are staying in a home and are using a car (Subaru outback) here courtesy of the Clinic (actually the community pays for the home now to keep good doctors coming in). The home has been quite comfortable (it's cold though) and the car very reliable.
This home has a never-ending stock of wood and coal stored under the house to keep us warm. Those green hills are what is right out our backyard, which has a little kids playhouse - perfect.
The kitchen is well-equipped with everything I need-including a DISHWASHER!!!!!!! The fridge is small (no big deal) and there is plenty of counter space. Our bedrooms have all the bedding needed, and even has heating blankets under the sheets (slipping into toasty sheets on a cold night is MUCH better than hot chocolate next to a fire - it's just as relaxing as sitting in a hot tub).
